Roughed Up

“The police arrived, the guards apologized, and the reporter left without filing charges. Then the policeman told the reporter, ‘You’re free to do what you want, but this is Foxconn and they have a special status here. Please understand.'” So wrote Michael Grothaus for an RSS feed in a piece about “A Reuters employee who was investigating Apple’s legendary secrecy visited Foxconn’s walled city-like facility in Guanlan, China, and was reportedly roughed up by security.”

Well, yea. The competition is fierce in China for lucrative contracts.  If Foxconn has a contract with Apple and that company loses the contract amounting to millions if not billions of American dollars, it makes sense that their security would be tough on any suspected industrial, high-tech spy. Their jobs even with low pay and long hours are better than no job and poverty. Why put up with a snoop?

If the Foxconn security didn’t take the job seriously, Apple might take their business to another country. How many people would have lost their jobs if that happened?

Consider that China has one lawyer for every 13,000 people compared to the United States, The Litigation Nation, with more lawyers than any other country—one for every two-hundred and sixty-five people and spilling hot coffee on yourself is grounds for going to court.

Wheezing for Profits

Thomas L. Friedman wrote in an OP-ED column for the New York Times, “China, of course, understands that (about Global warming), which is why it is investing heavily in clean-tech, efficiency and high-speed rail. It sees the future trends and is betting on them. Indeed, I suspect China is quietly laughing at us right now.”

It is obvious from Friedman’s OP-Ed piece that there is a benefit when Chinese engineers run the country instead of lawyers, accountants, corporate CEO’s with next quarter’s profits in mind, lobbyists, professional politicians and people like Rush Limbaugh, who confuses his ditto heads with bogus opinions.

If China’s engineers and scientists are laughing, it is because of the American fools that preach that carbon emissions are not the cause of global warming as if they are fighting a crusade against the infidel while ignoring all the other reasons why oil and coal are bad.

Let’s examine some other reasons why carbon emissions are not good and why humans should wean themselves from this dirty source of energy as quickly as possible.

1. Living near a freeway is not healthy
2. Carbon emissions and asthma
3. Dirty power from coal
4. Ocean acidification
5. Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

Because of China’s Return

I just read Facing up to China, The Economist, February 6th-12th, 2010, and I thought, “Who is the fool (sorry) person who wrote this?”

a) a neo-conservative
b) a Nazi sympathizer
c)  a believer in nation building using the military to shoot anyone that stand in the way
d)  a throwback to the age of imperialism (maybe a born again 19th century citizen of the defunct British, French, Spanish or German Empires)
e) all of the above

If the majority of Americans agreed with the opinion stated in this piece, why the masquerade that we actually care about human life? We should declare that America is the last Imperial Empire that serves corporations spanning the globe looting for profit.

Like Alexander the Great, Americans knew how to win wars once. During World War II, we firebombed cities in Germany and Japan roasting tens of thousands of non-combatant civilians nightly. In one final blow, we dropped nuclear bombs on Japan killing hundreds of thousands in two blasts ending that war. Along the way, we’d send a strong message to the world that we own it or at least the credit card companies and banks that own our government does. The last two sentences in “Facing Up to China” were the only ones that made sense.

The answer to the multiple-choice question is (e).

In a Dark Mirror Without Reflection

In the previous post, we saw how native minorities in America and the Philippines have been treated by the United States. When I brought this up in an e-mail conversation with a conservative friend, he said these acts do not count today.  I disagree. History always counts. After Christ said, “Let he who has no sin, cast the first stone”, he said, “Go and sin no more”, and investigations in Iraq revealed that under President George W. Bush, the CIA was torturing terrorist suspects.

If Americans are going to tortue terrorists, at least don’t lie about it or attempt to hide it.

Most of us have heard about Tibet and the demands by Tibetans in exile that Tibet be free from China to rule itself.  We hear claims of brutal human rights violations taking place without much evidence to support the claims, and people who have been brainwashed to fear and hate Communism (the word not the reality) will believe anything.

The American media recently revealed that tens of thousands of illegal aliens in America (some seeking political asylum) were locked up in detention centers and were not getting proper medical care and were dying because of it.

American Genocide

Christ once said let he who has no sin cast the first stone.

The topic of the next few posts will be about minority native treatment in China and America. As I have done before, I will compare China to America. This post will focus on the United States with some historical background.

Atrocities abound in the history books concerning treatment of Native American Indians during the sixteenth to nineteenth centuries. The Spanish destroyed the Aztec and Inca civilizations with disease and warfare. The Catholic mission system in California enslaved American Indians.

After the Civil War, the United States military was sent west and drove North American Indians from the land they had lived on for thousands of years and slaughtered men, women and children—millions died. Today, many of the surviving natives live in horrible poverty on reservations.

Trail of Tears

Then the American government grabbed Hawaii from the native Hawaiian people against their will. (There’s a native Hawaiian nonviolent separatist movement asking for freedom from America.)

It is always good to have the facts before passing judgment, and history counts.
